We are pleased to announce the second African WASH in Schools (WinS) International Learning Exchange (ILE) 2024, an event co-organized by GIZ, UNICEF and the WinS Network!

It will take place from 7th- 10th May 2024 in Zanzibar, Tanzania and it will be an opportunity to bring together WASH in school actors across the two regions of East and Southern Africa and West and Central Africa with invited global partners. International learning exchanges comprise of country delegations made-up of Ministries of Education, Health and /or Water Ministries and national experts. Delegations exchange with one another, as well as with technical experts and resource persons from various organisations and fields.

The overall goal is to build on the results and recommendations from the 1st African WinS ILE that was hosted by the Ministry of National Education and Literacy of Côte d’Ivoire and brought together Government representatives from 20 African countries and their key WASH in Schools partners from a total of 26 African countries. Participants had the opportunity to learn from experiences in Asia, visit schools and experience WinS in action in Côte d’Ivoire. The last day of the event was dedicated for country representatives to plan the way forward towards reaching the SDGs for WinS (under SDG 4 and 6) and to discuss broader recommendations on the way forward for WinS in Africa. The outcome document of the ILE 2023 can be found here. The International Learning Exchange 2024 offers the possibility to track progress of countries and their journey on WinS and how it can be further enhanced for scale and sustainability in the coming years to reach the SDGs for WinS!
