The COVID-19 pandemic is having an enormous direct and indirect impact on scaling up WASH in institutions. For the purposes of this note we focus on WASH in Schools and WASH in Health Care Facilities (HCFs). This Fact Sheet assesses the indirect impacts that COVID-19 is anticipated to have on WASH in institutions, via diminishing flows of public funding to WASH in institutions.

This fact sheet provides a snapshot of some of the most important knowledge on public funds allocated to WASH in institutions (i.e. schools and HCFs) at decentralized levels. As the Fact Sheet is brief, the main aim is to raise awareness on the risk of diminishing financial flows to WASH in institutions in light of the COVID-19 pandemic alongside other pressures.

The Fact Sheet highlights some further resources on the topic of public finance for WASH in institutions to support further advocacy plans.
