In support of the ‘Mission: Recovering education 2021’ campaign across the globe, the global WinS Network and the Asia-Pacific Technical Working Group (TWG) on School Health, Nutrition, and Wellbeing joined forces to conduct a webinar on the 28th of September 2021 on safe school reopening, with a focus on WASH considerations and pandemic preparedness and response. The 2-hour virtual event convened a panel of reputable speakers from Ministries of Education (MoE) and partner organizations.
As scene-setting, the latest global status of school reopening was shared, as well as global guidance documents to support countries in this process and some key findings from the 3rd Iteration of the Survey on National Education Responses to COVID-19 School Closures. From there, speakers from Indonesia, South Africa, India, and Ecuador shared their country experience in terms of good practices around processes and tools implemented towards safe school reopening.
A total of 98 participants from around the globe took part in dynamic discussions on lessons learned and remaining challenges around safe school reopening, and shared experiences from their own countries using the Mentimeter online participation tool. By the end of the event, the participants were provided with a snapshot of the progress of WASH in schools against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic from bird’s eye view (global perspective) and deep dive into country experiences. You may access the recording of the webinar on this link, while presentations used during the event is also available in the documents below.
